Bulletin #82: Health workers mobilize amid crises from Gaza to the UK

This fortnight

After more massacres by Israeli forces, Gaza's healthcare system is buckling under pressure. Local and international health workers are facing unprecedented levels of suffering, compounded by direct attacks on medical facilities. Overcrowded camps, debris, and overflowing sewage have led to new outbreaks, including skin infections. Additionally, Palestinian political prisoners are enduring torture, hunger, and sexual abuse in Israeli camps.

While Gaza's situation garners most attention within the health movement, health conditions across Palestine have also deteriorated under decades of occupation. In a new Charter4Health episode, Miguel Garcia of the People’s Health Movement discusses the broader health impacts of the Israeli occupation with activists from Palestine and surrounding regions.

Meanwhile, Ugandan health activist Denis Bukenya highlights the ongoing struggle for health in Africa

In England, general practitioners are mobilizing to protect primary healthcare amid growing privatization pressures and eroding working conditions. Despite a recent government change, UK health workers are ready to take collective action to defend the core principles of the National Health Service.

The next issue of People’s Health Dispatch will be published in the week of August 26.
